Video recording of GWU IP Speaker Series, February 22, 2022

On February 22, 2022 I visited GWU Law School to present on my article “Do We Need Exit Rules for Traditional Knowledge? Lessons from Solomon Linda, and the Mbube/‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ case” (Queen Mary’s Journal of Intellectual Property (12(4)) (2023). The research project uses the case study of an individual Zulu artist to ask the question of “whether, in focusing on actions by outsiders, policymakers and scholars have minimized or elided the crucial role played by ‘insiders’ in the process of misappropriation.” John Whealan, Dmitry Karshtedt and Barbara Lauriat were great hosts and it was a real pleasure to get a chance to talk to the students there, and to answer questions from J. Janewa Osei-Tutu (via Zoom), and Bob Brauneis.
